Thermoformed orthosis for the upper limb
A thermoformable orthosis is a splint that is molded to your measurements, fixed by Velcro and can therefore be removed once the hand or wrist is at rest, or for washing.
What is a thermoformed orthosis?
A thermoformed orthosis is a custom-molded splint, secured with Velcro straps, which can therefore be removed when the hand or wrist is at rest or for hygiene purposes.
Dr. Philippe Roure works with specialized orthotists who create this type of device for the hand and upper limb.
In many cases, these thermoformed orthoses can replace traditional casts or resin splints. They offer the advantage of being much less bulky, allowing maximum freedom of the fingers and upper limb, and enabling the patient to dress as normally as possible.
The shape and bulk of the orthosis depend on the area being treated or immobilized.
When should an orthosis be worn?
This immobilization technique is recommended after a fracture, a tendon injury, or following surgery.
Combined with minimally invasive or endoscopic techniques, it is possible to optimize comfort and enable a return to a normal active life as quickly as possible after surgery, fracture, or tendon injury.
Patients who wish to minimize disability in their personal or professional life, as well as athletes, benefit most from this solution.
Dr. Roure will suggest this type of device whenever possible, depending on your condition and your needs.
Dr. Roure does not fabricate orthoses himself, and his assistants therefore cannot schedule appointments for their fabrication.
